Ortitay falsifies documentation in TV commercial
White calls for misleading ad to be pulled
For Immediate Release:
October 15th, 2014 – Earlier this week, the campaign of Jason Ortitay, Republican nominee for State Representative in the 46th Legislative District, launched a new set of attack ads, including a television commercial and mailer claiming that “Jesse White supports a 40% income tax increase.” This claim has been cited to “The Morning Call, 8/7/14”; yet no article in The Morning Call on that date makes a claim to that effect. The television ad, which was paid for by the House Republican Campaign Committee, was authorized by Ortitay’s campaign.
The truth is that Rep. Jesse White has a strong record of opposing tax increases and has never supported or advocated for an income tax increase. Since White was elected in 2006, Pennsylvania’s income tax has remained constant at 3.07%.
“In political campaigns, there are exaggerations, and then there are lies. The ads being run by Jason Ortitay include blatant lies about my positions, falsely citing a newspaper that didn’t even print my name that day,” White said. “Jason Ortitay uses the words ‘honesty’ and ‘integrity’ on his yard signs, maybe he should go back to school and learn what those words actually mean. I am calling on Ortitay to either verify his false citation or pull the commercial from the airwaves immediately. It’s time for Jason Ortitay to stop hiding behind negative ads and lies and be accountable to the voters.”
Last week Jason Ortitay withdrew from the only scheduled debate, a League of Women Voters Candidates Forum to be held this Thursday at Canon McMillan High School. This was to be the only opportunity for voters to compare the candidates’ positions and question these attacks from the Ortitay campaign.
